This series was issued beginning 1 June 1872, except MiNr. 21 and 27 (1 November 1872). The stamps feature an embossed image of the German Reichsadler, or Imperial Eagle, with a large shield in the center.
The stamps are denominated in Groschen (MiNr. 16-22) and Kreuzer (MiNr. 23-28).
