The Ship Post (“Schiffspost”) collection features stamps of the shipping lines transporting mail under special arrangements with the Deutsche Reichpost. These arrangements were usually for transportation in coastal areas and between the German Colonies.

Additionally, mail was occasionally transported on vessels of the German Navy. The most common of these items, Marine Schiffspost, feature cancellations designating the individual ship by a number on the cancel.  Also shown in the collection are stamps and covers associated with the German u-boat mail, or Tauchbootbrief, of World War I.
