Generalgouvernement

Mikołaja Kopernika

The Generalgouvernement issued this stamp on 23 May 1943 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of Mikołaja Kopernika (Nicholas Copernicus).

The stamp was available in a sheetlet of 10 stamps.

Several plate flaws exist, including this copy missing the period after “24” in the left-hand date.

The sheetlets were printed in sheets of four sheetlets, and minor printing differences exist between the four sheet positions.  Among the variations is a broken axis on the globe for the sheetlets at plate position 4.

MiNr. 104 Klb Plate 3 (left) and Plate 4 (right)

In addition, proofs were printed on yellow paper, and without the dates printed on the stamps.
