Winterhilfswerk

The cards of this series were issued to benefit the Winterhilfswerk program. One card design was issued for each of the six months of the program, October-March, though the October card was not actually issued until 18 November.

The cards depict:

  • /01 — Woman gathering harvest (18 Nov 1938)
  • /02 — Woman serving stew (18 Nov 1938)
  • /03 — Woman painting WHW trinkets (1 Dec 1938)
  • /04 — Woman collecting clothes (2 Jan 1939)
  • /05 — Workman with hammer (1 Feb 1939)
  • /06 — Fisherman in oilskins (1 Mar 1939)

This series was also privately overprinted in the upper left corner by the KdF for the Nach der Arbeit Exhibition in Berlin, 20-21 May 1939.

Michel notes the overprints, but does not assign a separate catalog number. They are cataloged separately in Borek as Bo 262.

A commemorative cancel was available at the exhibition.
