This series was issued on 1 November 1933 to support the Deutsche Nothilfe charity program.

The “A” varieties are from sheets, and have K14:13 perforation (20:15 perfs). The “B” varieties are from booklets, and have K14 perforation (20:16 perfs).

The stamps feature representations from the works of Richard Wagner:

  • 3+2 Pf — Tannhäuser
  • 4+2 Pf — Flying Dutchman
  • 5+2 Pf — Rheingold
  • 6+4 Pf — Meistersinger
  • 8+4 Pf — Valkyries
  • 12+3 Pf — Siegfried
  • 20+10 Pf — Tristan and Isolde
  • 25+15 Pf — Lohengrin
  • 40+35 Pf — Parsifal

Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Germany issued several sets of stamps to benefit the Deutsche Nothilfe and Winterhilfswerke charity programs. In conjunction with these issues, the Reichspost posted advertisements depicting the stamps and encouraging patrons to purchase them for the benefit of the charity.
