1896 / 1899 Krone / Adler Overprints
In April 1896, a second set of overprints was issued for use in German East Africa. These overprints featured a diagonal surcharge as opposed to the earlier horizontal surcharge, and for the first time, included the name of the colony.
Plate flaws exist on the underlying issues of MiNr. 6 and MiNr. 8.

MiNr. 6 Plate Flaw I — broken scroll (right)

MiNr. 8 Plate Flaw III —short foot on ‘P’ (right)
These stamps were printed in 10×10 sheets, with two sheets per printing pane, arranged vertically. As a result, gutter pairs (in German, Zwischtenstegpaare) exist containg stamps from the bottom row of the top sheet and the top row of the bottom sheet.
