Dormann Postcards

In September 1898, a German family boarded a steamship and sailed for German New Guinea, where they hoped the change in climate would alleviate their health problems. Throughout the journey, at least two family members, Fred and Anna, wrote numerous postcards to family and friends who remained behind in Germany.

Approximately 5 years later, the elder members of the family had tired of the climate and decided to return to Germany. Most of the family returned to Germany, where the elder members remained.

The sequence of events in 1903/1904 isn't entirely clear, due primarily to a lack of clarity in the postmarks. But, it appears as if Fred had remained in German New Guinea, and returned via a Germany-bound steamer only to immediately board an eastbound steamer and escort Anna back to German New Guinea.
