Heydrich was attacked in Prague on 27 May 1942 by agents of the Czechoslovakian government in exile. He died of his wounds on 4 June 1942. The stamp depicts his death mask.
In addition to the normal printings of this stamp, 1,000 special edition sheetlets were printed and distributed to high-ranking officials and attendees of the ceremony commemorating Heydrich. The sheetlets bear individual identification numbers at bottom left.
