MSP No. 46 – SMS Hansa II

SMS Hansa II was a protected cruiser of the Kaiserliche Marine launched on 12 March 1898 and commissioned on 20 April 1899.

Shortly after her commissioning, SMS Hansa II was assigned to the Ostasiatische Squadron, where she saw action in the Boxer Rebellion and the capture of the Taku Forts.  She would remain in Kiautschou until 1906, when she returned to Germany for a major refit.

After her refit, she was used as a training ship, conducting training cruises to the US and Mediterranean.  At the outbreak of World War I, she was assigned as the flagship of V Scouting Group, but served only briefly before being converted into a barracks ship.  She was scrapped in 1920.
