MSP No. 44 – SMS Tiger
SMS Tiger was a gunboat of the Kaiserliche Marine launched on 15 August 1899 and commissioned on 3 April 1900.
Upon her commissioning, SMS Tiger sailed for Ostasiatische Station in Kiautschou, where she was to join the East Asia Squadron.
While assigned to Ostasiatische Station, she patrolled the area around Tsingtau. Notably, she evacuated Germans from Korea during the Russo-Japanese War and defended German interests in China during the Xinhai Revolution of 1911-1912.
At the outbreak of World War I, SMS Tiger was disarmed, with her guns being used to equip the steamer Prinz Eitel Friedrich as an auxiliary cruiser. She was then scuttled in Tsingtau during the Siege of Tsingtau on 29 October 1914.
