MSP No. 6 – Gera I
Gera I was a civilian steamer launched on 8 November 1890 for the Norddeutscher-Lloyd Line.
Durig her NDL career, she served on routes from Germany to South America, the USA, China, and Australia. In July 1900, she was chartered by the German government to serve as a hospital ship at Ostasiatische Station during the Boxer Rebellion.
In 1909, she was sold to an Italian line and renamed Valparaiso. On 11 October 1917, she was sunk by the German u-boat UB-48 off Libya.
