WWII War/Propaganda Forgeries

Set Date(s)

1939

Certificate(s)
Hindenburg Medallion Forgery

In 1941, the British created this forgery of MiNr. 519.

The forgeries are believed to have been used to distribute propaganda through the German mail system.

The forgery is very close to the original design with 14×14 1/4 comb, but on unwatermarked paper. It can be distinguished not only by the lack of watermark, but also in subtle areas of the design — the unshaded area of the throat is wider in the forgery, and the forgery has a red border around the head.
