1898 56° Krone / Adler Overprints

In December 1898, a second set of overprints was issued. The underlying stamps are German Krone / Adler Issues. The "China" overprint is at a 56° angle, as opposed to 45° overprint of the March 1898 overprints.

Like the underlying Krone / Adler Issues, there are numerous color variants of several of the values.

The 3 Pf and 25 Pf can be found with plate flaws on the underlying stamps.

MiNr. 1 Plate Flaw I — broken scroll (right)

Posn. 33, 38, 83, 88

MiNr. 5 Plate Flaw II — break in "I" (right)

Posn. 22, 27, 72, 77

MiNr. 5 Plate Flaw IV — dot next to lower left scroll (right)

Posn. Unknown

The 5 Pf value can be found with an overprint shifted dramatically upward.

MiNr. 2 Overprint Flaw I — overprint shifted upward

These stamps were printed in 10×10 sheets, with two sheets per printing pane, arranged vertically.  As a result, gutter pairs (in German, Zwischtenstegpaare) exist containing stamps from the bottom row of the top sheet and the top row of the bottom sheet.
