Fight For Freedom Overprints

This series was issued in early 1941 to commemorate Stamp Day. The cards are Third Reich MiNr. P242 (“In the fight for freedom!”) overprinted for use in German-occupied Alsace.

The cards depict units of the German armed forces:

  • /01 — Infantry
  • /02 — Alpine Troops
  • /03 — Alpine Troops in Winter Uniforms
  • /04 — Armor
  • /05 — Rail Artillery
  • /06 — U-Boat and Seaplane
  • /07 — Luftwaffe Communications Troops
  • /08 — Motorized Infantry

Ten different commemorative cancels depicting various war scenes were available from 12-14 January.
