MSP No. 3 – SMS Falke

SMS Falke was an unprotected cruiser of the Kaiserliche Marine launched on 4 April 1891 and commissioned on 14 September 1891.

Early in her career, SMS Falke was assigned to the Westafrikanische Station.  She was transferred to the Ostasiatische Station in 1894, and from that Station made frequent voyages through Germany’s Pacific colonies.  Notably, she and her sister ship, SMS Bussard, assisted in the suppression of a revolt in German Samoa in July 1893, and she was damaged during another Samoan uprising in March 1899.

Following a refit in Germany in 1901, SMS Falke would see service along the East and West coasts of the Americas, including in the Venezuelan Crisis of 1902-1903.  She finally returned to Germany for good in 1907, when she was decommissioned.  She was subsequently scrapped in 1913.
