The first stamps produced especially for the German colony on Samoa were overprinted versions of German Krone/Adler Issues.
The initial batch was printed in Berlin in March 1900, and they first became available for use in Samoa on 17 May 1900.
These issues were withdrawn from sale on 10 December 1900, but were valid postage until 30 September 1901.
The 3 Pf and 25 Pf can be found with plate flaws on the underlying stamps.

These stamps were printed in 10×10 sheets, with two sheets per printing pane, arranged vertically. As a result, gutter pairs (in German, Zwischtenstegpaare) exist containing stamps from the bottom row of the top sheet and the top row of the bottom sheet.
