1905 / 1919 Yacht Issues

Beginning in 1905, Germany began phasing in the use of watermarked paper on its new issues. This practice led to the introduction of new Yacht issues which were similar to the 1905 issues, but featured a lozenge-shaped watermark.

On 1 May 1900, Kiautschou issued its first postage stamps, these overprints of German offices in China MiNr. 3 I (45° overprint) & 3 II (56° overprint).  The stamps feature a new denomination (5 Pfg.) overprinted, and a blue line attempting to obscure the original denomination.

Unlike the other German colonies, Kiautschou never used dedicated overprints of the German Krone / Adler issues.  Rather, the initial Kiautschou postage was postage of the German Post Offices in China with an additional value overprint.
