WWI War/Propaganda Forgeries

Germania Forgeries

In approximately September 1918, the British printed forgeries of two German stamps of the Germania design. Postal historians differ on their usage, with the competing theories being that (1) they were printed so propaganda materials could be secretly delivered within Germany, or (2) they were printed for use by Entente agents operating within Germany.

The stamps are forgeries of Deutsches Reich MiNr. 86 and 101. They differ from the originals primarily in perforation and in slight design deviations along the brow and nose line.

Proofs of the 15 Pf value exist.
