Vichy Tricolore

French Legion

On 12 October 1942, the Vichy government issued these stamps to benefit the French Legion Tricolore, a force formed by the Vichy government to serve as their independent army rather than under German control.

The French Legion Tricolore was disbanded after only six months due to opposition from Germany, and the members were reincorporated into the LVF.

The stamps were issued in a sheet arranged such that the blue and red stamps were separated by a white row, forming a replica of the French flag.

Also shown here is the deluxe sheet created by the Government Stamp Printery in Paris.
