1943 Legion Issues

This series was issued on 1 July 1943 to commemorate the Croatian Legion. Proceeds from sale of the stamps was supposed to benefit the Legionnaires’ families.

Imperforate varieties also exist.

In addition to the individual stamp issues, Croatia also issued souvenir sheets which bore the same stamps in different colors, both perforate and imperforate.

An album was also produced containing not only the stamps and souvenir sheets, but also proofs demonstrating the printing process. Due to the inclusion of these proofs, a wide variety of color and perforation variations of the individual stamps also exist.

The stamps depict:

  • 1+0.50 Kn — Sailor at the Sea of Azov
  • 2+1 Kn — Pilot at Sevastapol
  • 3.50+1.50 Kn — Legionnaires at Stalingrad
  • 9+4.50 Kn — Legionnaire in the Don region
