Bern Issues

Upon the printing of the first German colonial overprints, a small number of sets were sent to the Universal Postal Union in Bern, Switzerland.  These “Bern Issues” (Feb 1897) were printed for five of the colonies: German New Guinea, German Southwest Africa, Cameroon, Marshall Islands, and Togo.  Approximately 800 sets of the respective colonies’ MiNr 1-6 (or MiNr 1-4, I-II) were printed.

These issues differ slightly from the postally-issued MiNr 1-6 in that they feature a heavier overprint.
