Dormann Postcards

In September 1898, a German family boarded a steamship and sailed for German New Guinea, where they hoped the change in climate would alleviate their health problems. Throughout the journey, one family member, Fred, wrote numerous postcards to family and friends who remained behind in Germany.

Approximately 5 years later, the elder members of the family had tired of the climate and decided to return to Germany. The entire family returned to Germany, where the elder members remained. The younger members of the family then returned to German New Guinea, arriving in early 1904.
